travel to korea + cosmetic surgery

My friend and I would be heading to Korea hopefully at end december, otherwise early January..

It is our first time to the country and we are going to backpack around. Besides that, our main goal is to get cosmetic/plastic treatment and we hope to get some recommendations as to where should we go...

I have read that Busan has good surgeons but how about Seoul?

Also, As we intend to travel around 2 weeks around korea. should we go for the surgery first or travel around first? Any advice on car rental - eg. hyundai sonata - or should we just take public transport?

Need all the help we can get!

    clothing to bring in Dec

Picol, Please see another thread that covers same subject, tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294196-i8160-k230鈥?/a>

Although December won%26#39;t be as cold as in January, but Yongpyong is in Gangwon-do, coldest province in S. Korea, plus it%26#39;s on high mountain, so be prepare for sub 0 weather. For your kids, please pack thermal inner-wears, (naebok in Korean), wool scarves, ear muff and hat, water proof gloves and boots (so snow won%26#39;t seep in their hands or feet) and coat that will insulate from cold winds and snow. Also bring sunscreen, you will be surprised how it is quite easy to get sunburn from all sun-rays that get reflected by white snow.

    Enjoy snow fighting!

  • taxi price from airport to shilla hotel seoul

Hello everybody, just wondering whether anyone out there knows how much a taxi costs from the airport to the Shilla hotel. Reason why I am asking is I can actually book a package from hotel which includes pickup and I am wondering whether it is worth the extra. Also how long is the journey from airport to hotel. Thanking you in advance.

taxi price from airport to shilla hotel seoul

I don%26#39;t know the taxi fare, but if you take KAL limousine bus to Namsan, it will take you to Shilla hotel for 14000 won, a little more than $10 US. It will probably take an hour or a little more.

probably 60,000 won and a bit more. About one hour plus and depending on traffic jam.

Thanks to both of you for your help. I will only have 2 full days in seoul so am trying to cram as much as possible. Does anyone know whether the Shilla charges its guests for use of pool etc. Highly unlikely but just thought I would check. Thanks again

    Hi loan,

This is a pretty late reply to your query but just in case your not yet in Gyeongju here%26#39;s part of my travel notes from 2006:

    ';Thur 11 May.

Busan to Gyeongju. We confirmed last nights advice to use the bus to Gyeongju and also to Seoul. We were told that it was cheaper and better as there is a bus every half hour, where as the train is only one morning and afternoon. Train also takes same or longer time than the bus.

Took the subway from near the hotel to the bus station which is well out of the city. A taxi would have cost 40,000 won as against the subway鈥檚 two sections at 1,000 won each. Took 40 minutes.

The express buses are comfortable. The seats are more like 1st class with rows of 2 seats on the left side and a single seat on the right side. The journey took about 1 hour.

    In the evening went to see the outdoor performance of music and dance by the Silla Traditional Performing Art Group. Just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. They were very good. Being outside it was also very cold as the temperature dropped to about 10 degrees. Well worth feeling chilly for. ';

The buses are good. We also used the same type to travel from Gyeongju to Seoul.

To watch the Sila Group, it performs in a small amphetheatre where you sit on concrete levels around the stage. Was free in 2006 so assume it still is.

    Cheers.

    Hi StanleyAukland

Thanks for sharing informations but i m a little confused ,taxi from your hotel (In Busan) to bus terminal (to go to Gyeongju) cost 40000W?That is expensive!the 40 minutes is from where to where?

Bus from Busan to Gyeongju took 1 hour?right?

Did you remember how much for a bus ticket from Busan to Gyeonju?

    Thanks

    Hi loan,

In Busan we stayed at Pusan Tourist Hotel which is at the bottom of Dragon Head Mountain and close to Kukje Market (also known as International market).

The main bus terminal is a long way out of the City.

The hotel staff told us that a taxi from the hotel to the bus terminal would cost 40,000 won. They suggested we use the subway (signs in english) as it is much cheaper. Subway station was close to the fish market and only a short distance from the hotel(about 5 minutes walk). Subway cost was 1000 won per section and there%26#39;s only 2 sections which equals 2000 per person.. It took 40 minutes by subway and the train stopped at the bus station so it%26#39;s easy to use.

From memory I think the express bus to Gyeongju cost about 4000 won per person. This was in 2006 but I dont think the price has changed much.

Yes the journey is about 1 hour.

    Cheers.

    OK.

    Now i understand!

    Thanks again

    seoul - anything like bangkok?

specifically i%26#39;m wondering whether or not it%26#39;s easy to buy cheap european teams%26#39; football shirts like it is in bangkok, what with all the shops they have selling knock-off replicas. is that the case or is everything a little more legitimate?

    seoul - anything like bangkok?

Seoul is nothing like Bangkok at all. It%26#39;s definitely more expansive city. You may able to buy some football jersey, if not cheap, especially Manchester United because Park Ji Sung is real popular in Korea. Check out Dongdaemoon market area or Itaewon area where English can be 2nd language. I think Korean government is more vigorous on curving sales of knock-offs, it won%26#39;t be easy find them. Seriously I rather buy uniquely designed local fashion items.

cruise ship port in Seoul and in Busan

We will be spending the day in Busan in February and later in the week in Seoul arriving on a cruise ship in both places. What would you recommend to do? Any shopping near the pier?
