Seoul, where is the nearest coastal resort?

We are travelling to Seoul in Sept and am concerned two weeks will be too much for one city, so we are looking for a coastal resort that we can travel to by train and stay for a couple of nights. Has anyone got any recommendations and if so, travel / accomodation tips please?

Seoul, where is the nearest coastal resort?

Korea is a small country, so you can go everywhere in Korea within at most 5 hours. For a coastal resort, Jeju island is the most recommendable. Jeju is the most popular resort in Korea and designated as natural world heritage by UNESCO. There are many flights from Seoul/Kimpo airport to Jeju airport by Korean air, Asiana airline, Jeju air and Hansung air. It takes an hour.

Thank you for your thoughts Jeju is, as you say a plane ride away, can you recommend any special places by the sea (with a nice beach) that aren%26#39;t an areoplane ride away please? The idea of travelling by train is to also get a look at the countryside as we travel.

Try Haewoondae beach, which takes abt.2.5hrs by KTX (express rail) from seoul or Gangwon-do beaches by korail (normal train) which are my all time favorites. There are lots of beach resorts in Gangwon-do, however, you could only reach the resorts in Gangreung or Donghae if you use train. I personally recommand '; Mangsang Auto Camping resort'; which costs KRW10,000 by taxi from Donghae station. It is autocamping resort but has american cottage, family lodge, caravan, cabin house as well and faces right with the beautiful mangsang beach. Unfortunately, there is no english website but only korean one. You might get some info. from Korea tourism organization. As for the resorts in Gangreung, try suncruise resort at http://www.esuncruise.com/

Hope it would help you.

This sounds and looks like solid gold information, just the very thing I was hoping for when I posted my question, Jeju is very well known and really only a flight away and although I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s excellent ';local knowledge'; is hard to beat!

Only 5 weeks three days before we fly out (not that I%26#39;m counting) ANY MORE HELP LIKE THIS APPRECIATED, thank you Trip Advisors!

Howdy,

you can see a lot of Korea in 2 weeks. Take advantage of your time, there is a lot to see here. Also, this country is off the backpacker circuit so all efforts are rewarded with a feeling that you are doing something different.

Sorry to disappoint, but Korea isn%26#39;t really know for it beaches. Hailing from Oz I have high expectations from beaches but even still, they are not great and I have not seen a nice resort on the mainland at least, Jeju is worth a trip though.

Beaches on the east coast seem quite nice which run almost the entire length. If you don%26#39;t want to travel much, it%26#39;s quite nice up around Sokcho way where you can go to Namsan beach and go to the temple. The little coastal towns are quite quirky and offer some interesting dining options if you can actually work out the menu that is, a food decoder is essential.

I%26#39;m not disappointed at all, keep the advice coming - two weeks might seem a long time but we certaily want to make the most of them, TripAdvisors members are all helping me to plan added value.
