Recommendations for shopping / food near my hotel?
No shopping or food at Phoenix Hotel except a small shopping building with a supermart and a bowling alley which forms part of the facility for the surrounding condo. At Lotte World Hotel, there is a Lotte Mart next door to the hotel and the themepark on the other side which has small stalls within.
If you are on tour, I can tell you that there won%26#39;t be sufficient time for you to shop and I personally find that the things are dear in Korea compared to Singapore but the fashions are very trendy. Furthermore, the clothes will all be winter in Dec. Unless you extend your stay, then you will have time to explore the shopping areas more. Myeong Dong is a good place to shop. Hope this helps..
Recommendations for shopping / food near my hotel?
1. shopping / nite shopping
You can shop at night in Dongdaemun in Seoul. That%26#39;s probably the best place to shop in Korea. It%26#39;s open until the early morning hours - about 4AM. You don%26#39;t need to bundled up to go shopping there, but you could freeze your butt off waiting for a taxi outside at 3AM, so dress warm....cover those ears! The subway system closes down at midnight and Lotte World Hotel is about a 25 minute taxi ride away at night. The taxi will cost about W15,000 (14 US dollars). A good price if you have a few people travelling with you. I think it%26#39;s worth checking out.
I suggest you leave Lotte World around 8PM with some other travelers and head for the Myeongdong shopping area. Take the subway, it will take about 50 minutes by subway. You%26#39;ll have to make a transfer, so work out your route with a subway map at the hotel before you leave. The Seoul subway can be an interesting experience if you%26#39;ve never been before. Myeongdong is a vibrant outdoor shopping mall area with hundreds of stores. Myeongdong is fun, but you won%26#39;t find much there that you can%26#39;t find in Singapore.
After Myeongdong you can take the subway to Dongdaemun (if it%26#39;s past 1130PM take a taxi). The two areas are relatively close to each other but not close enough to walk.
Dongdaemun is where Koreans go to find the best deals on clothing. If you like clothes shopping and you want to find something uniquely Korean that is the place to go.
After Dongdaemun take a taxi back to Lotte World.
Make sure you travel with at least one other person. DO NOT travel alone at night by taxi in Korea.
2. street food / yummy food places
There are some very good noodle shops in Myeongdong. It%26#39;s too difficult to give directions, you%26#39;ll have to figure it out..sorry. Hopefully there is someone on your tour who can guide you to Korean noodle shops.
3. karaok / singing places for family
They are everywhwere. Ask your guide or hotel for a good place.
Thanks Bibster2005 %26amp; hardycards for your advises.
hardycards,
how many ppl can the taxi accommodate? As I have 5 pax, any possibility of not splitting taxis?
Thanks
Usually the limit is four people, but sometimes they%26#39;ll squeeze in five (four in the back). If you can fit four people in the back without much of a problem the driver might allow it. If it%26#39;s too tight he%26#39;ll probably complain.......show the money!
