can someone pls advise how to get to Mt Naejangsan from Seoul and any recommendation for a nice hotel there? Between Mt Naejangsan and Mt Sorak, which is a better pick for a visit around 22 Oct??
mt naejangsan and mt sorak
I went to Mt. Naejangsan NP. I had the Korea Rail Pass and took KTX to the Jeongeup station from Seoul. You can take a tour bus but I hired a taxi who took me to the most delicious but cheap traditional Korean food feast restaurant at the park entrance and onto the mountain ridges, temples, museums, cable car, etc. There is a tourist hotel called Naejangsan Tourist Hotel.

thanks for useful info. You mentioned you used KTX. Is this the bus or the train? How long was your journey from Seoul to Mt Naejangsan? Do you have any idea if Mt Naejangsan is a better pick than Mt Sorak in terms of shorter travel time and scenery? I am leaving 21 Oct and since undecided....
Hi! I am going to Naejangsan too in early Nov.
Is it better to take the express bus or by train to Jeongup? Which is cheaper and faster? Is it expensive to take cab to Naejangsan from Jeongup?
KTX is a train that travels at 300 km/hr. It is the fastest. It is not the cheapest.
You need to reserve seats.
Here is the info about Seoraksan, Sokcho, another beautiful place to see autumn foliage. You can take express bus to Sokcho from Seoul(takes bout 3.5 to 4 hrs) then head to Seoraksan via local bus or taxi. Here is more info; 鈥isitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_6.jsp鈥?/p>
You can also try very well known local specialty ';Sanchae Bibimbop';, rice mixed with mountain vegetable.
oops, the link doesn%26#39;t work on my previous replay. Here is another try, 鈥isitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_6.jsp鈥?/a>
Here is the Korea Rail Pass site:

You can just about reach any major cities by KTX(French TGV like) in leas than 3 hrs.,i.e. Seoul - Busan, Seoul- Gwangju.
I negotiated $40 hired taxi from the station from 8am to 1 pm. The traditional feast, called Sanchae Jeongsik or Sanchae Chonsi, was a bargain $12 for more than table full of all kind of vegetable dishes, meat/fish clay hot pots. Not spicy hot at all except kimchi. You will see the picture of this dish on the Jeollabuk-Do tourist map.
