will anyone be around that area and available to go sight seeing and shopping together from the 20-26? I have no IDEA where anything is or if they are close to each other. I don%26#39;t speak korean either so it will be very hard. I don%26#39;t even know where Gangnam area is. I tried searching on google but nothing came up. Did I spell it wrong?.
Can I still wear skirts and short In October?
shopping and sight-seeing buddy for October 2008 %26amp; other Q:Good luck finding shopping buddy while you are in Korea. If you are really anxious about going shopping alone and getting around, try goodwill guide (鈥isitkorea.or.kr/enu/GK/GK_EN_2_7_3_1.jsp) I cannot vouch for this program since I never used, since I speak fluent Korean. But it seems like what you need. In fact it would be nice if you can review about this program after you tried.
As per language, all subways stops have English signs and Mobum Taxi(black sedan, more expensive than regular taxi) can accommodate English speaker. I was surprise how often people talked to me in English in major tourist areas. (They said I dressed like American=). If you go to Itaewon area, you won%26#39;t need a guide since you can easily hear English spoken on the street by many foreigners.
Gangnam literally means south of Hangan river which divides Seoul into two sections, Gangnam and Gangbuk(North of river). If you want to see more traditional places; palaces, antique shops, and markets head to Gangbuk area, Gangnam is newly developed area with many business centers and glitzier shops, sort reminded me of Rodeo Drive, LA. In fact there is a place called Rodeo street in Apgujeong-dong(Gangnam area). Here is more info, 鈥isitkorea.or.kr/enu/SH/SH_EN_7_2_1.jsp
Personally, I enjoyed shopping in Myeongdong area where you can shop trendy Korean brands as well as familiar American brands. It%26#39;s also very close to Namdaemoon market, the oldest traditional market in Seoul and couple of luxury department stores.
Have a good trip.
shopping and sight-seeing buddy for October 2008 %26amp; other Q:You don%26#39;t need to speak Korean to enjoy your trip in Korea. I am here for a week holiday and managed to get around with English and a subway map on my hand. The people here speaks limited English but generally if you approach a tourist information counter or people working in the service industry, they will be able to provide you some direction information in limited English which can be understood. The subway station is also in English and you can access quite a number of places using the subway. I enjoy shopping at Myeongdong, Ewha University area and Dongdaemun. These are the 3 shopping places that I would recommend as it%26#39;s affordable and has varieties of things to see and buy. Deoksugung Palace is also a nice place to visit. If you have time, you can consider Nami Island also.
You can bring skirts and shorts but I%26#39;d think light capris or jean or pants might suit better for the weather. Also bring cardigan or light sweater in case it gets little chilly.
I will be staying in Kyungkido province, and might be available on the 20th.
