Hi,
We will be going to Seoul in October and have 5 days 4 nights. Have been checking trip advisor forum and apart from visiting Palaces, Mt Namsan and shopping, can anyone suggest a nice place outside of Seoul to visit?
Suggestion of itinery for the 4 days would be appreciated.
I have not booked any hotel yet but if 1 day outside requires staying overnight - might consider. We are only flying off on 5th day at 11.00 pm.
Thanks
Suggestion require for 1 day trip out of Seoul.
I%26#39;d always recommend Kyongju/ Gyeogju for an overnight trip out. Take KTX to Dongdaegu then local train; all about 2.5 hours. Stay In Hilton or Hyundai hotel; rent a car or a cab, and visit the temples, Grotto, Poseokjong, Cheomsongdae, Tumulus park. Really worth it!

Thanks Elterman, have looked into your suggestion. Seoul will be the last leg of our trip back from Europe before flying back to Australia. I can see that your recommendation is quite a distance from Seoul. Seoul visit was meant for winding down so if possible do not want to travel too far. I see you have suggested Suwon for the Korean Folk village - to someone else thus might take a day trip there and maybe the DMZ tour. Is the DMZ tour any good?
The website of Korean Folk Village : www.koreanfolk.co.kr/folk/english/index.htm
You could also do a day trip to Everland (the theme park) or Caribbean Bay (the water park), which are also in Yongin. They are less than 1 hour drive from Seoul.
We have just come back from Seoul and really did enjoy our visit to the Folk village (although we did end up being got by the Korean equivalent of Ali G/Sacha Baron Cohen) on the bus on the way out.
We caught a public service bus 500-1 from street (stand is in between streams of traffic) exit 7 Yangjae Station. While all of this is easily managed it is walking about rather than chilling out. I can really sympathise with the need to have a bit of respite before your trip back. We moved to a hotel near the airport..the Hyatt..and then took a local bus down to ferry and across to an island ..another local bus and visited Hannagae beach. It isn%26#39;t like Australian beaches but the comparison is interesting and the seafood barbeque we had was probably the best one ever. Even better than Brisbane yabbies. The whole journey only took about 40 minutes and was easy to manage. The ferry goes across every half hour (journey time five mins) and the buses are all timed to meet and leave when the ferry does.
Our last visit in the city was the Royal tombs at (spelling is probably wrong Seollung in the distict). I found the stone carvings really very evocative and the park was peaceful with very few visitors. Very nice to have a bit of green space.
Not sure what time you arrive...
Day 1 - exploring seoul. My golden route is Namdaemum (the south gate) -%26gt; City hall -%26gt; Insadone (try lunch and korean tea)-%26gt; Palaces
Day 2 - 3
Gyeoungju for 2 days 1 night, historical sites.
Day 4
Suwon for day trip, it%26#39;s only 30 mins from seoul by metro. After that, shopping in seoul.
Day 5
- DMZ, you may take a tour or get a ride there, which is 0.5 - 1 hr by train.
Don%26#39;t forget to try korean BBQ with soju, i esp like those sit on the floor... miss it!
