About 80 per cent of the contributors to this forum seem to be from Singapore recently. I%26#39;m interested in why so many Singaporeans are visiting Korea right now.

Anyone care to elucidate?

I think there are 2 main reasons:

1) a lot of tour agencies in Singapore have been offering korea tour packages in Singapore in the last 3-4 yrs. These are priced much lower than Japanese tour packages of similar length of stay. Singaporeans do not experience 4 seasons back home, so korea or japan are places where we could experience that without flying long haul.

2)Increased popularity of Korean dramas. Lots of singaporeans watch korean dramas (our TV broadcasting station bought rights to many korean dramas to air in Free-to-air channels in Singapore. Thus more people are interested to go Korea. In fact, due to the popularity of korean dramas, more folks in Singapore are taking Korean language classes too.

I%26#39;m in Seoul right now.... unfortunately more becos of work than recreational trip! But hopefully can squeeze in some shopping/touring time before i catch my flight back :)
