Driving in the snow in korea

Would it be ok to rent a car n drive through the snowy conditions in Korea?

I should be travelling around Korea for a month so I figured that driving might b good.. but I%26#39;ve never driven in snow. Any advice?

If you can rent or buy a snow chain, it would not be any problem with driving in snowy weather.

However you should be very careful in a highway and especially in Gangwon province where sometimes drivers have some trouble with heavy snow.

Sometimes traffic is blocked in the mountain roads such as Daegwanryung, Misiryung but not very often in another areas.

You will need several days to adjust in left side, right lane driving system. Reverse for me when I had to drive in Thailand. I am sure you will find yourself turning on a wiper when you wanted to turn on turn signals.

If you stay in major cities and major roads, you won%26#39;t have much trouble regarding snow on the road. Korean citizens are very impatient so Korean public service pays very good attention about road condition when it snows. If it snows too much, especially during daytime, there might be some trouble, but that is when you should avoid driving.

If you are not driving into Kangwon province, out of express way, you won%26#39;t need snow chains. Also, many Korean cars will be equipped with snow tires during winter.

Anyway, if you happen to drive in snowy road, reduce your speed, try not to brake suddenly. Many accidents happen when one tries to go or stop suddenly. Cars can rotate because of uneven rotation. If your car is not equipped with ABS system, you might need to press foot brake several times rather than one big time.

I only exprienced slippy snowy road several times for last 10 years when I drived in Seoul, so don%26#39;t worry too much.
